Melodious Music: Taylor Swift – Red

Losing him/her was blue like I’d never known
Missing him/her was dark grey all alone
Forgetting him/her was like trying to know somebody you never met
But loving him/her was red
Loving him/her was red

Touching him/her was like realizing all you ever wanted was right there in front of you
Memorizing him/her was as easy as knowing all the words to your old favorite song
Fighting with him/her was like trying to solve a crossword and realizing there’s no right answer
Regretting him/her was like wishing you never found out that love could be that strong

Remembering him/her comes in flashbacks and echoes
Tell myself it’s time now, gotta let go
But moving on from him/her is impossible
When I still see it all in my head
Burning red
Burning it was red

I must admit I wasn’t quite a fan of this song until I heard a cover of this song. The original, fast pace beat didn’t quite match the lyrics in my opinion. That is why I find Tyler Ward’s version to be perfect with an acoustic guitar and slower beat. It perfectly describes the heartbroken person in a relationship. How forgetting someone is almost impossible. How trying to move on from a recent break up is impossible when the memories and flashbacks are still recent. How realizing that someone is all you ever wanted but it just could never work out. It really does suck to feel that way.

Melodious Music: Slow Dancing In A Burning Room – John Mayer

It’s not a silly little moment
It’s not the storm before the calm
This is the deep and dyin’ breath of
This love we’ve been workin’ on

Can’t seem to hold you like I want to
So I can feel you in my arms
Nobody’s gonna come and save you
We pulled too many false alarms

We’re goin’ down
And you can see it too
We’re goin’ down
And you know that we’re doomed
My dear
We’re slow dancing in a burnin’ room

I was the one you always dreamed of
You were the one I tried to draw
How dare you say it’s nothing to me
Baby, you’re the only light I ever saw

I’ll make the most of all the sadness
You’ll be a bitch because you can
You try to hit me, just hurt me
So you leave me feeling dirty
‘Cause you can’t understand

We’re goin’ down
And you can see it too
We’re goin’ down
And you know that we’re doomed
My dear
We’re slow dancing in a burnin’ room

Go cry about it, why don’t you
Go cry about it, why don’t you
Go cry about it, why don’t you
My dear, we’re slow dancin’ in a burnin’ room
Burnin’ room, burnin’ room

Don’t you think we outta know by now?
Don’t you think we shoulda learned somehow?
Don’t you think we outta know by now?
Don’t you think we shoulda learned somehow?
Don’t you think we outta know by now?
Don’t you think we shoulda learned somehow?

This song is just a masterpiece on it’s own. The guitar riffs, John Mayer’s voice, the intuitive lyrics, the magnificent tune, just everything about it is perfect. Because it is that great, I will go through ALL of the lyrics. P.S.: All interpretation are my own so they might be wrong or correct. Before that though, I just want to give a special shoutout to Kevin for introducing me to this song because it really is a great song that I’ll never forget.

It’s not a silly little moment
It’s not the storm before the calm
This is the deep and dyin’ breath of
This love we’ve been workin’ on’

It’s not some stupid argument a couple is having. It’s not going to resolve like any other petty thing. It’s the start of the end. The end of something that both partners have been working on so hard to keep it alive.

Can’t seem to hold you like I want to
So I can feel you in my arms
Nobody’s gonna come and save you
We pulled too many false alarms

He wants to keep the relationship alive. He wants to keep hold of her. But he knows that it’s impossible. Nobody can save the relationship anymore. Not even the ones in it. And it’s all because of the little mistakes that accumulated.

We’re goin’ down
And you can see it too
We’re goin’ down
And you know that we’re doomed
My dear
We’re slow dancing in a burnin’ room

Ah, the chorus. It signifies that both partners know that the relationship is going down. That the relationship is going to end. ‘We’re slow dancing in a burning room’ They will still love each other till the end. A bittersweet feeling. They don’t want to let go. The memories. The love. The feelings. But they know it will keep going downhill if it continues.

I was the one you always dreamed of
You were the one I tried to draw
How dare you say it’s nothing to me
Baby, you’re the only light I ever saw

She accuses him of not pulling the weight in the relationship and not loving her enough although she said he was the only man she ever wanted. But to him, it was very clear that she was the only woman he ever wanted.

I’ll make the most of all the sadness
You’ll be a bitch because you can
You try to hit me, just hurt me
So you leave me feeling dirty
‘Cause you can’t understand

He has learnt his lessons from this relationship. From this toxic relationship. Because she doesn’t understand his sacrifices and whatnot. So she puts the blame on him and it leaves a dirty stain on the man’s ego even though what he did was right. And the song goes back to the chorus.

Go cry about it, why don’t you
Go cry about it, why don’t you
Go cry about it, why don’t you
My dear, we’re slow dancin’ in a burnin’ room
Burnin’ room, burnin’ room

Don’t you think we outta know by now?
Don’t you think we shoulda learned somehow?
Don’t you think we outta know by now?
Don’t you think we shoulda learned somehow?
Don’t you think we outta know by now?
Don’t you think we shoulda learned somehow?

He hopes that she regrets about what she has done. And how she wants the relationship to work. But apparently, she never did. And they never knew that this would lead to the end of a relationship. They never knew how to fix the relationship but he still loves her while her love for him faded. And yet, all he can do is stay with her till the end of the relationship. Because he is in denial. In denial of the end of something that was great to him.

As a conclusion, I’ll leave 2 videos. 1 is the studio version which is great and 1 is a live version which is in my opinion, the best rendition of the song.

Melodious Music: Charlie Puth – We Don’t Talk Anymore feat. Selena Gomez

We don’t talk anymore
Like we used to do
We don’t love anymore
What was all of it for?

Essentially the basis of the song which talks about two lovers who broke up and never talk to each other anymore. After the break up, the two lovers don’t want to see each other with their new partners,  mildly showing signs of regret and failure of acceptance.

Honestly, it feels heartbreaking to see someone that you used to love have someone else as a partner. Having her/him as part of your daily life was the norm and now it’s just all gone. In an instant. Talking to them. Being with them. Their presence and their love. Everything.

Melodious Music: Mattafix – Big City Life (LEEX Remix)

Big city life,
Me try fi get by,
Pressure nah ease up no matter how hard me try.

People in a show,
All lined in a row.
We just push on by,
Its funny,
How hard we try.

Take a moment to relax.
Before you do anything rash.

Soon our work is done,
All of us one by one.
Still we live our lives,
As if all this stuff survives.

The Linguist across the seas and the oceans,
A permanent Itinerant is what I’ve chosen.
I find myself in big city prison, arisen from the vision of man kind.
Designed, to keep me discreetly neatly in the corner,
You’ll find me with the flora and the fauna and the hardship.
Back a yard is where my heart is still I find it hard to depart this big city life.

Listening to this tropical house track when I was cruising in my friend’s car. The lyrics felt so beautiful when you look at it closely. It perfectly describes my past 2 years studying in Melbourne so far. Melbourne, one of the most affordable cities, makes you feel everything is rushed and pushed on including the people, work and education. I’m not kidding when I say it actually can give a bunch of pressure and stress on you. It takes a toll on you. You always have to strive for better and more when you’re living in such a city. Sometimes, all I need is to calm down, chill and take everything slowly. That’s why I love Brunei (especially Kuala Belait). Everything is quite relaxed albeit a little TOO relaxed. I just want a perfect balance between the busy city lifestyle and the chill, calm ‘kampung’ lifestyle. Because it sometimes feels like I’m trapped in a cage when I’m in Melbourne. I couldn’t do what I want to do that would normally be fine back here. Sure, it’s a great city and I absolutely LOVE Melbourne. The options are endlessly. But, you know, my heart belongs to the ‘kampung’ lifestyle. Even then, I find it hard to leave Melbourne if I do. It’s such a great place. Mixed thoughts overall as to what kind of lifestyle I prefer but both are definitely options I would consider in the future. It just depends which one I’ll like more 5 years then. 🙂

I did listen to the original but I felt it was too slow and this remix was perfect to listen to when you just want to lay around. However, there’s no deny that the lyrics are perfection.

Melodious Music: DJ Snake – Middle ft Bipolar Sunshine

It’s like I’m always causing problems, causing hell
I didn’t mean to put you through this, I can tell

I hope that I can turn back the time
To make it all alright, all alright for us

Am I just overthinking feelings I conceal
This gut feeling I’m tryna get off me as well
I hope we find our missing pieces and just chill

Recently, I was listening to this song and noticed the lyrics. I guess the lyrics represented a stage of my life where me and a very close friend had our friendship cut off. It was definitely a rough time of my life. This song brought back some bad memories but life is all about moving on. Even though the past has happened, it’s important to learn from it and move forward. For the best of both parties. For the other person to know that you’re doing well. 🙂
